The Lwena is an ethnic group living in Angola
and Zambia. Lwena art is similar to their neighbors, the Chokwe and
Lunda peoples as well as their languages resembling one another.
The name of the group is taken from the river Luena. The protrusions
on the sides of the stool serve as carrying handles.
Traditionally, stools were reserved for and used by kings and chiefs
to show power and prestige.
