Rare Bolo Helmet Mask - Bobo (Vinhyama), Burkina Faso - Sold

There are a number of different Bobo mask types. Masks of the bolo type were entertainment masks created and performed by Bobo smiths and the imagination of the artist is free to create innovative forms, this particular one being one of the most unusual we have ever seen.

These masks are worn with fiber costumes and its wearer dances at night accompanied by songs, drums and whistles around.

Carved from wood and embellished with shells and seeds, and a layer of padding on the inside top of the mask to cushion the head, as it is very heavy.
