The Nankana’s primary language is Farefare, and they are also worn by the Fra Fra, a Gurunsi sub-group. From northern Ghana, and south Burkina Faso.
Although characterized by neither a common language nor common political institutions, the social, economic, and religious practices of these sub-groups are sufficiently similar for them to constitute a distinct cultural unit.

The primary religion practiced by the Nankana is animism, a religious worldview that natural physical entities including animals, plants, and even inanimate objects possess a spiritual essence. Like the Nankana, the Kasena (or Kassena) create beautiful jewelry to honor the spirits.
These are characterized by their widely projecting, triangular side surfaces.
