palace regulatory society, or a wealthy lineage
compound in the context of commemorative
celebrations for male title holders of the
kingdom.
The mask is identified as female by
the tongue-shaped hairdress typically worn by
wives of the king. The female mask, Ngoin,
symbolized the role of royal women as
complementary to that of men.
