This is an intriguing mystery piece!
We do not know the function or meaning behind this piece other than the fact that we collected this ourselves from the Dogon in Mali about 25 years ago.
We know that statues with multiple heads are called Ginin, and were placed on an ancestral altar; however, we are not sure in this particular case.
In Dogon sculpture, faces looking in multiple directions from which danger might come, typically represent solidarity and the protection of the family.
Height: 12" - on its 3" square metal base, it stands 12 3/4" tall. 3 ½" wide and deep.
It has been marked on sale only due to our uncertainty.
