Kneeling female figure - Nyamwezi People, Tanzania M54

Rare figure from the Nyamwezi people, who occupy an important territory of Tanzania. The art of the Nyamwezi is one of the richest in this region, and the stylistic diversity of their art is considerable. This exceptional Nyamwezi statue could be a funerary statue, representing an important ancestor.

We have the original receipt for this piece from the Kahan gallery, it states that this is a rare, turn of the century piece.
