This divination object is called itwoom or
"rubbing oracle" by the Bushoong, the royal
members of the Kuba people. The diviner interrogates the oracle while rubbing a small
wooden peg along is back. The answer is
affirmative when the peg sticks to the oracle.
The oracle is consulted to diagnose illness as
well as to single out criminals. It is thought to
be especially effective at identifying thieves.
