Glass Venetian Gooseberry Beads early 19th c (strand b)

$120.00
Transparent with white stripes. Some people call this "onion skin".
About 132 beads on this strand. 24 ½" long.

Gooseberry beads were made in Venice (Murano) in the 1700s through the 1900s. They are made of heated, drawn, pinched and polished clear glass, and are known for their white stripes toward the outer edge. These beads were traded in Africa and are becoming exceedingly difficult to find, especially in such good condition!
Although it's hard to see in the photo these are starting to get a pinkish tinge from prolonged sun exposure and age.
