Diviners are consulted about medical, psychological, professional, or other personal challenges. While diviners
often sought smaller spirit sculptures convenient to carry with them,
other diviners commissioned larger figurative sculptures and probably
stood on an altar. The caliber of the arts used in a diviner’s practice
shows their competence and accomplishment, and those of renown
often have the means to commission more ambitious works.
