This is the most impressive shield of this kind we have ever seen anywhere with its fine incised lines, embossing and serrated rim.
Attributed to various Ethiopian tribal groups in the Omo River region, these shields are made of animal hide. The designs on the shield are created by placing the hide over a wood mould. Shields, in addition to being used in warfare and ceremonies, also served as prestige objects.
