Wooden headrests or "pillows" are used to support the head during sleep and also to preserve their elaborate hair styles. This double-conical form is rare, and is still in very good condition. It came from the southern parts of the Ethiopian Highlands ( good coffee comes from here too!)
Prior to their forced incorporation into the Ethiopian empire in 1897, the Kaffa had their own kingdom with a monarchy and councilors of state.
