According to the book The Tribal Arts of Africa by J.B. Bacquart," the group almost died out - in 1890, they numbered around 60 000, and by 1970, their number was believed to be around at just 35 000."
This would have been worn with others as a necklace/choker.
Wonderful wear and patina, and it still has its ball/clapper, so itl makes a great sound when shaken.
