Iron head, with wooden handle. The junction with the haft encased in wire work, with additional wire work below. The wire is tightly wound, and undamaged.
One of the most important and effective weapons that were used by the Zulu, was the Zulu Battle / Ceremonial Axe, known as isizenze. They came in different forms and shapes and were also used in pre-battle rituals whereby a black bull was sacrificed in order to appease and invoke divine or ancestral powers.
Also carried as an insignia of rank in ceremonies as symbols of wealth and prestige.
