Arthur P. Bourgeois was Professor Emeritus in Art History at Governors State University, University Park, Illinois. As an Africanist, his personal fieldwork in 1976 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (then Zaire) among the Yaka and Suku was devoted to the traditional n-khanda. He has studied Yaka collections worldwide and published four books and more than thirty professional articles.
