Hardcover – by Jean Paul;Loucou Jean-Noel Musee Barbier-Muller;Barbier

This two volume catalogue is an extensive compilation of the Barbier-Muller Museum. In the first, Barbier writes at great length on the works of the Côte d'Ivoire including those from the ethnic areas and the institutions. The second volume covers the actual collection of works with a map at the beginning of each section to indicate to the viewer where the works originated. The works are then given a lovely description with as much information as the scholars know about that particular work. Many different well-known African scholars contributed including T. Garrard and S. Vogel. The works are arranged by location and appear in the order of north, west, central, and south in both of the volumes. Barbier included a glossary at the end as he used many words from the Côte d'Ivoire language. The many images in the first volume have been given a small description in addition to the essay.

1st Edition. 2 volumes 30 x 24 cm Volume 1: Texts 422 pp and Volume 2: Catalogue 229 pp fully illustrated mainly in colour. Fine in clothbound slipcase.
