Renowned for their majestic royal ancestral representations. The prominence of the large and bulging closed eyes refers to the subject’s status as a being endowed with a heightened sense of the spiritual realm. Cared for and kept in a shrine as an important statue which was given given the name of the ancestor it represented.

The east Kivu region is home to a number of peoples, whose sculpture overlaps stylistically. The Hemba, Basikasingo, Bainda, Bakeci, Basu eastern Bembe or Buyu People.
