This book accompanied an exhibition which came to the USA in 1987. The Staatliches Museum in Munich has a collection of over 20,000 objects, of which 450 are represented in this book. Here you have an opportunity to see objects you won't likely find elsewhere, and the accompanying text is more informative and personal than often found in such publications. There are many newer, larger books on African art with better photographs, but if you want to see some "hidden" pieces and read some insightful comments and speculations, I recommend this book.
