Both priest and doctor, the Yoruba diviner is trained
to identify the source of the illness, death, or sorcery
through a complex system of foretelling known as Ifa
divination. At the beginning of the consultation with a
client, a diviner lightly strikes a tapper against a
wooden tray to invoke the gods who were present at
the moment of creation.
