The Tuareg are a nomadic tribe from the
Sub-Saharan (Sahara) Countries of Niger, Algeria, Burkina
Faso, Mali, Libya, and Morocco. The Tuareg artisans are
renowned for their unique and exquisite utilitarian artworks
as well as pieces in silver and leather work. Tuareg artisans
have preserved the symbolism and cosmology from the past
through their jewelry and other artifacts. The geometric
patterns and designs have a modern and universal appeal
that transcend the sands of time. This utilitarian pulley would
have been used in the construction of the Tuareg's famed
nomadic camps and tents, as well as the harnessing of water
from precious Saharan wells.
