Snuff containers and mortars are still
used by diviners, as tobacco is a tool for communicating
with the ancestors. It is used in divination to put the
diviner in contact with the spirits. Tobacco was ground
in small wooden mortars which were sometimes decorated with carved figures. These mortars were precious
luxury items highly cherished by their owners.
