This antique pendant is called a ëDagdaní after the
sacred tree which grows high in the mountains is
believed to be a strong antidote to evil - others refer
to it as the 2-headed eagle. Highly prized among
Tekke women, they were worn for their protective
powers. The carnelian was intentionally shaped like
eyes in order to thwart off any evil eye directed
towards the wearer. The color red is paramount
since it symbolizes the vibrant life force that courses
through our veins, and wearing beads of this color is
believed to strengthen that life force.
