Mortars and pestles are universal tools used to crush, pound & crack ingredients, such as grain, herbs, nuts and spices, into powders and pastes. They make pounding sounds that beat to the primal rhythms of life. This is a particularly rare piece, being that it is Mumuye. The Mumuye are primarily an agricultural people. Their primary crops include millet, ginger, beans, yams, squash, peanuts, and citrus products.
