The Himba are a pastoral, nomadic people. They
depend upon their goats and cattle. The proud
Himba women take several hours each morning for
beauty care. They make a cream consisting of butter-
fat, ash & red ochre powder which not only gives
their skin a reddish shine, it acts as a sunscreen and
insect repellent. Married Himba women wear a
leather necklace with the conch shell being a
symbol of fertility.
