‘Chichaso’ African name for trade beads.BR>
Originally made in Venice in Italy approximately 100-300 years ago, these famous glass beads were transported
by Europeans to many countries in Africa to trade for skins, spices, gold,
diamonds, etc. Africans then traded them amongst themselves, using
beads as a form of currency. Each bead has been carefully hand-crafted
by fusing little droplets of glass, hence creating a multitude of different
designs.
