Gilded tribal silver, & carnelian mounted
on leather.
Worn across the shoulder by an older Tekke woman, this amulet was sometimes referred to as
a ‘cheikel’, ‘haikal’ or ‘kamea pouch’. It was believed to
contain miniature prayer scrolls from the Koran or ‘Sura’
(part of the Koran), amulets and possibly small personal
possessions.
