The Ndebele are one of the most
colorful tribes in all of Africa. They paint their
homes in bright geometric patterns and adorn
themselves with intricate beadwork.
The 'Nyoga' is
a long train which forms part of the apparel of the
bridal costume. It hangs from the shoulders and
trails on the ground making a snake-like motion on
the earth as the wearer dances.
This 'Nyoga' is from the African Heritage Trust Collection
and predates the 1950's.
