Situated in the northwest, the Ngbaka used
masks within the scope of the initiation and
circumcision rituals, called gaza: “that which
gives strength”.
Masks in the Uele and Ubangi
regions are very rare, but common characteristics include a scarification pattern in the
form of a vertical ridge over the nose,
similar to the nose scarifications dictated by
tribal customs.
Included is a custom-built metal stand.
